Marda Loop

(from 14st SW turn west<right> on 33ave SW)

The Marda Loop shopping district is lined with over 100 trendy shops and boutiques. Since 1984, Marda Loop has been a thriving destination for shopping, dining, health and wellness and can be found East of Crowchild Trail along 33rd and 34th Avenues SW.

The name “Marda Loop” is inspired be two significant landmarks that defined the area, the first being the trolly car route that made daily rounds, heading as far SW as 33rd Avenue and 20th Street before “looping” back to the City centre. The second landmark was the Marda Theatre, founded by Mark and Mada Jenkins (Marda created be merging their two first names). The theatre was located on the corner of the same intersection of the “loop” trolley route, thus the area is so named “Marda Loop.”

I like this area because of it’s access to Crowchild Trail – there is a yuppy feel about this community...heaps of in-fills are rising up along the north end. The crowd is young and vibrant, check out locals at the newest coffee shop: Phil & Sebastian (2043 33rd Ave SW).

Shopping for the person who has everything was difficult until Mur Mur opened in 2010, they carry gifts not found elsewhere in the city and when they gift wrap it truly is a piece of art (111 3411 - 20 Street SW) then if you’re looking for great meals to go, you’ve got to stop by Fresh Kitchen (2042 42 Avenue SW).
